Back to School

Right before Christmas, we added a new member to the family.  Yes, this little guy:

His given name is Canon EOS xsi.  But, I just call him my new love.   I thought for a while that I needed to amp up my photography skills and then our old Kodak point & click died. I did some online research to find a good entry-level DSLR.  Additionally, I asked an old theatre-pal, Brian Ach,  who is now a professional photographer.

I asked Santa for a Photography class to hone my skills. Plus, this camera  has so many bells and whistles that the manual just wouldn’t cut it (plus, I usually only turn to the manual when there is smoke, blinking red lights, or a ringing alarm).  The Hubby, er Santa, knew how tight I am with my time so he was kind enough to ask if a once-per-week, 6-week course would be ok.  YES.  I attended my first class last  Monday night and I could already tell it would be helpful.  We watched a presentation, learned new vocabulary words (aperture, IOS, bokeh), and I even have homework!  I am looking forward to the rest of the course.

So, my point is, if there is something you have meant to do or to learn, find a class and JUST DO IT.  It is never too late.  Martha would want you to do it….

Addendum:  If you DO take a class and you end up not liking it or it didn’t meet your expectations, do something about it.  See if you can get your money back or use it for a different class.  Case in point, I took a Yoga class through an OSU extension course with my friend Lori years ago.  We held our arms above our heads for 30 minutes and swished them back and forth in a  washing machine-like-manner.  I hated it.  HATED IT.  So did Lori. So we vowed never to go back.  Then, when I was pregnant with the Diva, I took a 10-week pre-natal yoga class — and started when I was 30 weeks pregnant.  Do the math.  Pre-natal Week 37 + Downward dog = One really pissed off pregnant lady.  So, the point is NOT to  avoid yoga.  Just figure out if you can get your money back OR make it through the class, learn what you can, and then do better research on finding a class on the next go around.

Is your class through Cord? I’ve been thinking about upgrading our camera and taking their class. A friend took it and said it was helpful. They offer a photoshop class that I am thinking about taking this spring when the weather is more reliable.
