…can be found here. While reading my sister’s Real Simple magazine, I noticed this article and knew I needed to post it for the benefit of several friends (and myself) who are dealing with work-life balance.
My top tips:
5. Getting out the door in the morning (without anyone in tears) is the only thing you have to achieve before 8:30 a.m.
It’s like this tip was written with me in mind. There are many mornings that I have a pot roast cooking, a load of laundry going, a blog post-posted…all before 7:00 am. And then, from 7:00 – 8:00 I deal with getting the kids ready and the large levels of cortisol streaming through my veins. I think there are tears EVERY morning…sometimes theirs, sometimes mine. Do you recall those animations they have on TV for different weight loss supplements? They show the levels of cortisol coursing through the body and then the midsection of the body gets fatter and fatter? They modeled that after me….
7. Go with your gut, and don’t second-guess it later.
Amen. Go for it, learn, MOVE on.
And MY FAVORITE TIP:
10. Stop thinking of yourself as split into separate but equal roles: mother, worker, me. Listen to philosopher John Locke, who said that a person recognizes himself as the same being throughout his life, in different times and places. You are one person, indivisible, who just happens to wear many hats. And while I get that the weight of all those hats can wear you down, at least be happy you’ve got something important to do.
